A cover is cheap insurance that keeps cushions from fading and frames and hardware looking new for years longer.

How to Measure for a Cover

A good cover is snug but not tight. For each piece, measure its width, depth, and height at the largest points, then choose a cover that's slightly larger so it slips on easily and water runs off. For sectionals, measure the full footprint of the arrangement (or cover pieces individually if you rearrange often). When in doubt, size up an inch or two — a cover that's too tight tears at the seams.

What to Look For in a Quality Cover

Waterproof, breathable fabric: you want water to run off but moisture underneath to escape, so condensation doesn't get trapped. UV resistance: the cover itself should not break down in the sun. Secure fit: tie-downs, drawstrings, or buckles keep it on in a gust. Air vents: they reduce ballooning and trapped humidity.
