Rug Care and Cleaning

How to Care for Your Outdoor Rug

Outdoor rugs from Jr's Patio are built to withstand the elements, but a little regular care goes a long way in keeping them looking beautiful for years to come.

Regular Maintenance

  • Shake or vacuum weekly — Remove loose dirt and debris by shaking the rug out or vacuuming on a low setting without a beater bar.
  • Rotate seasonally — Rotate your rug every few months to ensure even wear and sun exposure.
  • Keep it dry — Although outdoor rugs are designed for moisture resistance, avoid leaving them in standing water for extended periods.

Spot Cleaning

For spills and stains, act quickly:

  1. Blot the spill with a clean, dry cloth — do not rub.
  2. Mix a small amount of mild dish soap with warm water.
  3. Gently scrub the affected area with a soft brush.
  4. Rinse thoroughly with a garden hose.
  5. Allow to air dry completely before replacing.

Deep Cleaning

A few times a year, give your rug a thorough cleaning:

  1. Hose down both sides of the rug.
  2. Apply a mild soap solution and scrub with a soft brush.
  3. Rinse thoroughly until water runs clear.
  4. Hang or lay flat to dry completely in the sun.

Winter Storage

If storing your rug during winter months:

  • Clean and dry thoroughly before storing.
  • Roll (don't fold) the rug to avoid creasing.
  • Store in a cool, dry location away from direct sunlight.
  • Consider a breathable rug storage bag to protect from dust and pests.
